About

The Prismatic Textile project is a continually evolving expansion of a cycle of 7 forms. These forms are built around geometric structures, patterns, subject matter, and storytelling. The basis for all of the forms comes from integrating various geometric structures with a Fibonacci spiral. The spiral is used because it helps guide attention into the center of the painting, and evokes the sense of an ever expanding world that the observer is free to explore as they wish.

There are 3 main components which all of the Prismatic Textile forms incorporate. There is the central rectangle which contains the Fibonacci spiral. This feature is called the ‘Keystone’. Surrounding the keystone and branching out to the rest of the composition are pathways made to look like grooves or channels. I call these features ‘Grooves’, because they guide attention around the composition and give a sense of structure. The 3rd main feature is called the ‘Mechanistic Frame’ because it surrounds the keystone and provides a space for building ideas. Imagine the Mechanistic Frame as a machine which weaves together many different ideas and perspectives, creating the fabric of the composition. These 3 components are used as a structure, upon which the 7 forms arise: The Seedbank, The Language Sandbox, Triangulation, Pyramid, Bridges and Tunnels, Drawing at the Well, and The Shadow of a Reflection. It is the creative filling of the spaces within the Prismatic Textile structure which distinguishes each of these 7 forms.
