Continuous development.

The Prismatic Textile series is a continuous evolution of paintings which follow a common form and build in complexity over time. Imbedded connections weave common threads between and within the paintings.

Artist Tom Contino began painting the Prismatic Textiles in 2016. Since then, the series has been continually evolving. Tom is known for his landscape paintings, river scenery, and night-time urban scenes, but the Prismatic Textiles series represents a distinctly philosophical approach which is quite different from his other work.

The Prismatic Textile paintings are built upon a structured geometric foundation and built up slowly over time. Woven into this geometric framework are threads of ideas: ranging from subtle explorations of color, texture, and abstract shapes to imaginative landscapes, architectural motifs, multifarious symbols, and references to world history and mythology.

Tom’s goal for the Prismatic Textile series is for the paintings to serve as a window into a space where the viewer can explore whatever topics they find. Each time you look, you’ll see something new.
